Why Quest

A question of value

This is not "higher education as usual."

Quest University Canada is the product of many dreams.

First, we imagined a university where for approximately 3 weeks per block, students focus exclusively and intensely on one topic for deep understanding and insight. Then, we imagined that we'd teach curious, passionate students in small classes. Third, we imagined a location in one of the most beautiful places in the world, a living laboratory for the natural environment with spectacular ocean and mountain views. Finally, we imagined that students would become fluent in a second language, study abroad and gain professional experience through service learning, campus activities and internships.

We imagined such a university - and then we built it.

Choosing a University

Working together on a big decision

Choosing a university is a family endeavor. It's an enormous decision and one that requires the delicate blending of your dreams with the dreams of your son or daughter.

Quest University Canada was conceived to offer students a one-of-a-kind educational experience. We recognize that Quest isn't for everybody. But we do know certain students will thrive on the intensity of the Quest experience.

Given that, is Quest right for your student? How do you help your child make the best choice of university possible?

Here are our thoughts:

  1. Begin an ongoing conversation - with yourself and your student. How far away does your student want to live? How far are you willing to let your student travel for university? Does your student want to live in a small mountain community or a large metropolitan area? What are his or her academic interests? What does your student's academic record look like? Answering questions such as the above can narrow your student's post-secondary list considerably.

How can you help? Suggest your child meet with his or her college counsellor at their high school for ideas about potential universities. Also, ask your friends and colleagues about positive university experiences their own children have had. What are they doing with their education now?

  2. Remember, there is no perfect university. There are several great fits. This is why we encourage students to visit our campus (and any university campus they are considering). For students, the choice of where to attend university can be largely emotional. Your student wants to know: "Will I fit in?" Is this the right school for me?

How can you help? Urge your child to visit his or her top choices. And offer to accompany your student on campus visits.

  3. Do not rule institutions out on the basis of tuition prices. In North America, private university tuitions appear much higher than those at public schools. However, private institutions such as Quest try to bridge the gap by offering scholarships and other forms of financial aid including campus work. If Quest is the right school for your son or daughter then money shouldn't be an obstacle.

How can you help? Talk about financing frankly with your student. And organize your financial data so you can submit financial aid applications in a timely way.

  4. Consider Quest. If the following adjectives resonate with you and your student, put Quest on your list. Is your student confident, entrepreneurial, curious, passionate, committed, resolute, motivated and original?

How can you help? Spend more time on this web site and encourage your student to do likewise. Then schedule a visit. We think you'll be impressed.
