It has long been recognized that higher education institutions, particularly universities, are among the most stable and change resistant social institutions to have existed during the past 500 years. Based on the model of the physical campus, residential students, face to face student-teacher interaction, a lecture format, and ready access to written texts, these institutions have effectively developed and transmitted the store of knowledge from one generation to another. They have fulfilled this responsibility in the midst of political and social upheaval, social development, and technological advancement while remaining essentially unchanged in structure and method. Will this proven model retain its resilience and relevance in the 21st century?
Michael Gibbons - Secretary General Association of Commonwealth Universities and Chairman of the Quest University Canada Board of Governors.
At Quest University Canada we are rethinking the model of how higher education is delivered and like Socrates, we, too, believe that the foundation of education begins with a question.
Similar to the way that brilliant minds were shaped by Oxford tutors for generations, we believe that experts who guide an educational journey provide a much more effective pedagogy than lecturing to audiences in the hundreds.
And just like leading liberal arts colleges in the United States, we believe that by focusing on only one class at a time students experience an effective and efficient learning environment.
Simply put, Quest is an amalgam of the best historical practices in effective education. If you're interested in a different way of doing things, we invite you to explore the block program, our incredible location, our students' relationship to their faculty, the development of an intellectual pursuit in the form of a question, and of course... unmatched campus facilities.
For creative thinkers, risk-takers and innovators, Quest is for you.
